Model 19's in Upstate, NY

Ad says excellent condition and 100% original from 1980. Would these (1980) have 416-8C's and 902-8A's?

yes, I've seen a lot of 19's and everyone has had an 811b.

Yes, both the earlier alnico Model 19's and the later ferrite 19's use the 811b horn. I'm wondering if by 1980 they had switched to the ferrite 416-8C and 902-8A.....

More than likely ferrite which means they suck! I'd go with a pair of LaScala's........

Actually a beautiful pair it seems.

Famous Altec top of the line two-way, with Mantaray, Tangerine etc. If you know what those terms mean, you understand how special these are.....He might just as well added

Also if you know what those terms mean then you'll surely realize that I don't.

Pretty sure you're kidding that they suck.

Personally, I think the 902-8A gives the 802-8g a run for it's money. I own both (902-8A in my Model 14's and 802-8G in both pair of my 19's) and it really is an apples and oranges comparison IMHO. There are some very knowledgeable people here on this forum who prefer the 902-8A's for their different sound/h.f. extension (compared to the 802-8G) but I like them pretty equally--both have unique strengths as far as I'm concerned and both are amazing sounding drivers. As far as the 416-8B compared to the 416-8C, I know there is a debate there as well. I've never heard 416-8C's -- they are one of the only 416's I've never heard as I've owned Valencias from the 60s with 416A woofers (16 ohm) and Heathkit AS 101's with 416-8A woofers (8 ohm) and both sounded great -- clean and powerful. However, I like the sound of my 416-8B's better--deeper bass--but that could be largely due to the tuning of the 19's cabs so without hearing the other 416's in the same cabs it really isn't a fair comparison.....

And yes, they do look like a beautiful pair. I'm not in the market for another pair of 19's even though they are about two hours from me. This post was more of a heads up for other member (and a question about when the 19 transition to ferrite ocurred) as they are driving distance to our members in the NYC area or some of our Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio members for that matter (I think they're in Bowtie's back yard). If they really are all original and in great working order as claimed, the asking price is right IMHO -- especially if there is a little wiggle/haggle room there....
